KS3 Design Technology

Our excellent KS3 Technology curriculum is one that equips students with the transferable knowledge and skills required to face an ever-evolving world with its ever-changing consumer needs and desires, demanding new solutions and innovations in support of a brighter and sustainable future.

The intent of the curriculum is to equip students with the knowledge to select suitable materials, tools and skills and apply these to solve real world problems.

A learner in Technology will be taught to be inquisitive forward thinkers, who are given the opportunity to research and understand materials, new technologies and develop/manipulate ideas to create solutions for a sustainable future.

Technology Teachers have the unique opportunity to encourage students to communicate their ideas through a range of mediums. A successful DT teacher will demonstrate passion and enthusiasm and take a pride in developing adaptable and analytical risk takers who are not afraid of failure.

In Technology we give our students self-agency by giving them control over productivity and encouraging unique design ideas. Students are given time to understand design contexts and develop new and innovative designs that relate this to real-world problems.

To ensure substantive and disciplinary elements are balanced we encourage contextual connections to the wider world by starting with a fact, and asking why, how, where, and inspire pupils to do the same. E.g. why use softwood over hardwood, links to sustainability, discussions, spark interest among thought-provoking students.
