KS3 Maths
KS3 Maths is the next stage of the journey and follows on from our KS1 and KS2 curriculum. Students work towards starting their Entry Level Certificate in Maths during Year 9 as this is their first formal Maths qualification. Lessons aim to develop confidence in problem solving alongside the mathematical skills required. As our students can arrive at different stages of their mathematical understanding, we work to quickly establish prior knowledge and skills and then plan the best way to ensure steady progress is made throughout their time with us, ultimately aiming to take a GCSE Maths in Y11.
What is our approach to the subject?
We aim for all students to achieve success in Maths and this is judged for each individual. From the moment they start with us, we will seek to identify strengths and areas for development and then tailor our lessons to allow all students to make progress as effectively as possible.
How assessment takes place in the subject.
In Y7 and Y8 we complete a short assessment at the end of each term or as we complete each unit of work. This is done informally with students able to request help and is a starting point for building resilience for examinations in the future. In Y9 students begin the Entry Level Certificate which involves completing 8 units which are usually assessed through timed exams. Students sit the exams as they complete each unit.
